Phenylpiracetam

Stimulating nootropic and performance enhancer

The drug Phenotropil (Phenylpiracetam) due to its pharmacological effects belongs to the class of nootropics. Most of the time classifications of nootropic drugs included pyrrolidone-racetam derivatives (piracetam, oxiracetam, aniracetam, etc.) for which the improvement of mnestic functions such as memory and learning is the main (often the only) or most pronounced pharmacological effect.

Phenylpiracetam was developed in the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems for use in space medicine. The work of astronauts in orbit in conditions of prolonged exposure to stress required the use of an effective and safe drug. However, none of the drugs existing in Russia and abroad belonging to the group of tranquilizers, as well as stimulants did not meet the requirements to be included in astronaut’s first aid kit.

Several years have gone into the development, testing, and introduction of Phenylpiracetam. Countless experiments on animals, clinical studies on more than 500 patients in leading Russian clinics, and most importantly, the results of using the drug by astronauts in conditions of long space flights allowed scientists to say with certainty – Phenotropil is a unique nootropic drug that has no analogs in the world. The high efficacy of Phenylpiracetam, which allows astronauts to overcome high loads of space flight, made experts think about the possibility of its application in civilian medicine. As a result, Phenotropil has become one of the few drugs that came from space medicine in general clinical practice.

Researches showed that more than half of the adult population of Russia is exposed to constant stress and emotional overloads and to some extent needs correction of psychoemotional reactions. In addition, people who, due to their profession, are forced to be in extreme situations, require effective medicinal care. Therefore, the unique combination of nootropic and psychostimulant in one pill opens new possibilities for its wide application.

Pilot-astronaut Alexander Serebrov used Phenotropil during his 197-day stay in space. His conclusion is this: the drug acts as the equalizer of the whole organism, and completely inhibits the impulsiveness and irritability during the high nervous tension of space flight.

Clinical trials conducted in the State Scientific Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry, V.P.Serbsky, Moscow Institute of Psychiatry, Russian Center of Vegetative Pathology and others, confirmed the effectiveness of Phenotropil and demonstrated its main properties:

  • Improvement of regional blood flow in ischemic areas of the brain;
  • Reduction of depressive and anxiety disorders;
  • Increase the resistance of brain tissue to hypoxia and toxic effects;
  • Improving concentration and mental activity;
  • Psychostimulating effect;
  • An increase in the threshold of pain sensitivity and
  • Improvement in the quality of sleep, as well as anticonvulsant action and anorexigenic effect (during long-term use).

Important differences of Phenylpiracetam from all existing nootropics are its low daily dose, once-daily dosing, short duration of treatment, fast onset of action, high antidepressant activity, and psychostimulation (without the effect of hyperstimulation).

The high safety and efficacy of Phenylpiracetam made it the leader in this group of medicines. Until now, the group of nootropic drugs in terms of the volume of clinical relevance and the number of comparative studies conducted was led by Piracetam. Now, after the appearance on the pharmaceutical market of Phenotropil, it became the new reference drug of nootropics class.
